Introduction

Sodium copper chlorophyllin (SCC) is a natural pigment extracted from Silkworm faeces or Alfalfa with modern biotechnology. It is a water-soluble and bright green mixture derived from natural chlorophyll that has potential antimutagenic and antioxidant properties. This compound is used as a food colorant and supplement.
SCC of the commercial-grade is prepared from a reaction between a crude chlorophyll extract and methanolic sodium hydroxide, followed by replacement of the central magnesium atom with a heavy metal (Sodium copper chlorophyllin is derived through the process of alkaline hydrolysis where the magnesium atom is replaced with sodium and copper).

Feature

Pure natural green pigment,strong dyeing ability, good resistance to light and heat. lt is natural green and its color is stable under neutral and weak alkaline conditions; With a special odor resembling amine compounds,there was hygroscopicity and the aqueous solution was remarkably alkaline,freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in diethyl ether.
